Acorn C/C++ (Release 5)

A mid 90's development environment

website 1995

This is a copy of Acorn's development tool set from 1994/1995. it is known by a number of names.

  • Acorn C/C++
  • Acorn C Release 5
  • The Desktop Development Environment (DDE)

It supports development for RISC OS in the following languages.

  • ARM Assembler
  • C
  • C++ (through the terrible Cfront)

It also contains a debugger, makefile system, and support tools for many aspects of development.

It supports generating code for 26-bit addressing mode versions of RISC OS for the Archimedes/A7000/Risc PC machines, running RISC OS 3.1x to RISC OS 6 (excluding RISC OS 5, and RISC OS 4.42 on the A9home).

It is possible to run the compiler on similar 26-bit addressing version of RISC OS from 3.1x onwards.

It neither runs, nor generates code suitable for any 32-bit addressing mode version of RISC OS (RISC OS 5, RISC OS 4.42), or those machines which use that, Iyonix, A9home, Beagleboard, Pandaboard or Raspberry Pi. A version that supports this (suitable for host machines running RISC OS 3.5 or newer) is available for purchase here.
