The competition, which was run for the first time in 1992, aims to raise awareness of the effects that drugs, smoking and alcohol can have on individuals, families and communities and to encourage discussion among young people of the benefits of not misusing any substance. More than 2,000 storyboards were submitted this year. The Awards Ceremony will be hosted by John Leslie and among the audience for the first screening of finished videos will be Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health, John Bowis.
During the competition, the 96 shortlisted schools went on a Superchoice Film Makers' Weekend where they were given professional advice on how to turn their storyboards into effective videos. The winning schools will each receive state-of-the art Risc PC multimedia computer equipment from Acorn.
Pupils, teachers and independent experts will be available for interview at Planet Hollywood on Thursday October 20th between 12.30pm and 1.30pm and the speeches, screenings and presentations begin at 2.30pm.
