Risc PC 600X
Cost is a major factor when considering the purchase of departmental or
laboratory computer equipment. However, functionality comes a close second.
With this in mind, Acorn in partnership with Gnome Computers have
designed a bundled system to meet the price performance ratio.
The Risc PC 600 X offers the ability of accessing other operating sytems
whilst fitting seamlessly into a heterogeneous networked environment.

TCP/IP suite
!Internet
The !Internet application holds all the various modules that provide the
services and protocols needed for the other TCP/IP suite applications to work.
Included are a number of networking facilities based on the Berkeley Standard
Distribution 4.3.
!NFSfiler
NFS Filer is an application that gives access to files on another
computer - typically one that runs UNIX. It displays the files in a directory
display like any other RISC OS filing system. Supports multiple concurrent
mounts, save of common mount details, hidden password entry and file mapping.

supporting XDM. Security for communication over the network is provided through
DES encrypted authentication. The server may also be used with other authentication
methods, although some of these may not be as secure.
Users who wish to run native Risc OS applications while running an X session will
find the hotkey function particaly useful. This allows the user to switch between
X server applications and the Risc OS desktop.
The X server software is capable of supporting resolutions of up to:
This combination of hardware and software makes the Risc PC600X a highly
competative workstation.
